Rohrabacher Calls on World, Putin to Assist Christian Refugees

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, said this week that the "good people of the world" must come urgently to the aid of Middle Eastern Christians and Yazidis who are targeted for genocide by the terrorist Islamic State.

"The United States can't carry this," said Rohrabacher, who has introduced legislation, H.R. 4017, to grant priority refugee and refugee status to Christians and Yazidis fleeing the embattled region stretching across Syria and Iraq.

In a hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations, chaired by New Jersey Republican Rep. Christopher Smith, Rohrabacher called on the "good people of the world of every faith -- Muslims, Christians, Jews, and Hindus -- to stand together on this."

The California Republican issued a special plea to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has engaged his country's military in Syria's civil war, to offer sanctuary to the refugees. The congressman has stood up for Putin's anti-terrorist offensive in the region.

"Russia has introduced very powerful weapons to that region," said Rohrabacher. "If they would do that, I would call on the people of Russia and the government of Russia to bring in the refugees from Syria and elsewhere where Christians are being murdered for their faith.

"Let's see not only military action but also humanitarian action on the part of Mr. Putin's Russia."
